Holiday Illness Compensation
Going on holiday should be a fun and exciting time but if you find yourself ill it can cause a lot of stress as well as unexpected expenses. An illness may be suffering food poisoning whilst on holiday or being struck down with the Norovirus whilst on a cruise.
Tour operators have a duty to ensure that the hotels have up to the standard general hygiene procedures and are compliant with international food safety standards. If you booked a package holiday through a UK tour operator, most of your trip will be covered by The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992.
Here at Mark Jones & Partners we can help you claim back the compensation for the illness you, or your family, have experienced whilst on holiday. Before you get in touch have a look at the criteria needed to have for a holiday illness compensation claim: -
- You, or a family, member was ill for 3 days or more
- Your holiday was a package holiday (travel and accommodation booked together)
How much compensation will I get for my holiday illness claim?
It is difficult to say exactly how much compensation you may receive for a holiday illness claim but having mild food poisoning (cramps, diarrhoea and stomach pains) on holiday that continues for several days may settle between £700 and £3,000 depending on the circumstances.
For more severe cases, if the food poisoning continues to affect your ability to work and enjoy life than a compensation claim can go up to £40,000.
